Yes, it is the best show in the history of the world. That is NOT an exaggeration in the least. So You Think You Can Dance is amazing and it has made the world a better place and don't no one argue with me. Haha. But really, it's such an inspirational show, and as I've confessed in previous ramblings, I am completely and pathetically obsessed with it.
Last night was the first episode with real dancing, where the Top 20 performed in pairs for the first time. Granted, I am no dance expert (despite what my know-it-all comments and strong opinions about various routines might suggest), but it seems like this is one of the strongest Top 20 groups we've seen so far on this show (plus the judges keep saying that, so I'll just repeat it). But seriously, I was REALLY impressed last night. There was really only one routine that was just kind of meh for me, the bland hip hop routine by the hip hop dancer who should have made it a hip hop sensation but was just meh.
Here are my favorite routines from last night:
A non-meh hip hop routine by Jeanine and Phillip (Napoleon and Tabitha are geniuses, by the way):
The beautiful Foxtrot that Brandon and Janette pulled off so effortlessly:
And the contemporary routine that Melissa and Ade danced to the admittedly cheesy Richard Marx song of my middle school years...but it was gorgeous.
So far, no favorites for this season. It usually takes me a while to really get attached to someone, but I think Ade, Brandon, Jason, Janette, Kayla, Phillip, Asuka, and Caitlin all have great potential.
Predictions for bottom three girls: Paris (for her meh hip hop routine), Ashley (because despite his obvious talent and creativity, Wade Robson's choreography is WEIRD and out there, and most people don't connect very strongly to crash test dummies), and Asuka (because of the annoying Broadway routine she was forced to dance...really, Tyce?).
Predictions for bottom three boys: Tony (for the aforementioned meh-ness), Vitolio (seriously, that Broadway routine was dumb and I felt sad for them), and Kupono (because of the weirdness of Wade).
Who's going home? Tony and Paris.
P.S. One of these dudes, I forget which, started dancing when he first saw this show, i.e. 4 YEARS AGO!!! IT'S NOT TOO LATE, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
P.P.S. yes, I do vote. Don't hate.

Sorry for the bad iPhone pic...but in honor of our second anniversary, Scotty surprised me with gorgeous flowers (the tulips are my fav!), Godiva, and a bottle of Prosecco, aka the best drink ever! He also brought me a much-needed Americano at work after lunch, hooray for him! We had a low-key night after small group - since we're on a med student/grad student budget at the moment, we're calling our upcoming Mexico trip the AnniversaryBoardsAreOverHalfwayThroughGradSchool Extravaganza! I can't believe it has been two years since the wedding - even though so much has happened, sometimes it seems like yesterday. I'm so thankful to have such a fun/sweet/thoughtful husband, especially when he has that pesky little thing called med school and board exams to worry about, whatev. He's wonderful - it has been an amazing/crazy/fun/challenging/weird two years, and even though the life of two grad students is not always easy and full of strange experiences, I can't imagine it any differently :) Except maybe without the $23940832239499999000 in student loan debt.
Oh well.
p.s. He very politely requested that I amend my statement from a couple of posts ago in which I called him a NERD for loving Glee and watching the Don't Stop Believing video many times in a row. He requested that I please replace that terrible derogatory name with "cultured." Mmmmk. Much love, dear.

This weekend Scott took a study break from boards and we decided to welcome summer by grilling a delicious meal (and yes, it was diet-appropriate!)
We grilled some delicious black bean burgers with avocado:
Along with some delicious fennel and a fresh salad with amazing veggies from the co-op we recently joined, refreshing passion fruit iced tea from Teavana, and Skinny Cow Mint Ice Cream Sandwiches for a wonderful dessert (and only 2 points a piece!):
It was a wonderful, relaxing break for both of us, and a great way to ring in Summer. Of course a new season led to me doing That Thing I Should Not Do, aka wishful online shopping. Our vacation that's coming up is making me think of summer dresses and such, and these two just scream summer to me:
Oh Anthropologie, how I miss you. But for now, YAY summer!

I heard about this show first from Nava, my go-to gal on things like this. I wasn't sure what I thought of the trailer, but I was curious so I looked up the sneak preview pilot episode on Fox.com, and let me just say - it rocked. It gives us Mean Girls-style sarcasm (and anyone who knows me knows how I feel about that piece of cinematographic genius) meets Ten Things I Hate About You-satire meets High School Musical jazz numbers where people burst into song randomly...aka a recipe for the BEST SHOW EVER! I hope more people get interested in it so they don't cancel it, because that would just be mean.
Favorite lines from the pilot that convinced me of this show's potential:
Melodramatic jock who wants to be a Broadway star: I don't wanna be just another guy, driving around, throwing eggs at people.
Crazy cheerleading coach who pumps iron and whey protein: YOU THINK CHEERLEADING IS HARD? I LIVE WITH HEPATITIS, THAT'S HARD.
Disinterested principal: You want to take over Glee club? What, do you want to captain the Titanic too?
Put that together with more biting sarcasm and awesome vocals from legitimate Broadway stars, and I think I'm excited for Fall.
Here's my favorite video, but you should watch the full episode to get the full effect :)
And yes, I'm a nerd, but NOT AS BIG OF A NERD AS MUSICAL THEATER-LOVING HUSBAND! :)
